Summer is still in full swing on Amelia Island! Here are some of the Island highlights this month:
Stuffed Animal Sleepover
The Villa Villekulla Neighborhood Toy Store will host a Stuffed Animal Sleepover for kids and their stuffed animal companions. Held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. August 11, kids are invited to come in their pajamas with a stuffed animal to enjoy snacks, complete a craft, and enjoy a bedtime story. Stuffed animals will stay overnight, and their owners may come back the next morning to see what their furry friends did while they were gone. The cost of this event is $5 per stuffed animal. The event proceeds benefit the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy. Villa Villekulla is located at 5 S. Second St., Fernandina Beach.
The 2nd Saturday of every month, the Artrageous Artwalk is held in Fernandina Beach. From 5-8 p.m August 12, the galleries located at X y z. Sponsored by the Amelia Island Arts Council, participants may enjoy appetizers as they view local art at participating galleries. Avenue Q at Amelia Island Community Theater
Get your theater fix by watching the Avenue Q puppet performance at the Amelia Island Community Theater. This Tony-Award winning play is suitable for teens through adults, as adult themes, language, and puppet nudity are present in the play. Come enjoy the two-hour performance on August 11-12, 17-20, and 23-26. The Amelia Island Community Theater is located at 207 Cedar St., Fernandina Beach. Performances begin at 8 p.m., and the admission fee is $25.
Amelia Island Downtown Tasting Tours
Three drinking-themed tours, Mixology, Cocktail, and Booze & Bites, will meet on various occasions throughout the month of August in Downtown Amelia Island. The Mixology Tasting Tour will visit four different watering holes and guests will have the opportunity to learn how to mix a cocktail while learning about each bar's history. This tour will meet on Fridays and Saturdays in August from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Guests will also have the chance to vote on the best cocktail and enjoy tastings at each location. Booze and Bites Tour will stop at two restaurants downtown. Patrons will have the opportunity to meet the owners and chefs and enjoy samples on the tour. The Booze and Bites Tour will meet every Thursday and Friday from 2:30-5 p.m. The Cocktails Tour will take guests on four stops to different Amelia Island watering holes. Like the Mixology tour, guests will have the opportunity to meet with bartenders to learn how to make different cocktails, and learn about each bar's history. Cocktails will meet each Sunday in August from 2-4 p.m., Each tour will meet at the Hola Cuban Cafe, located at 117 Centre Street, Fernandina Beach. Farmer's Market Tour and Class
Farmer's Market on Amelia Island is held Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. It is held at the Amelia Island Culinary Academy, located at 25 S. 3rd Street in Fernandina Beach. For just $40, you can accompany Chef Bill Thompson at the market to learn how to shop fresh produce like a chef. Chef Bill will then use his purchases to create dressings and dips. Les DeMerle Trio Jazz Party Weekend
From 6-9 p.m. On August 26, people of all ages are invited to enjoy the Les DeMerle Jazz Trio at Horizons Restaurant, located at 5472 First Coast Hwy Fernandina Beach. Amelia Musical Playhouse Presents 'Always Patsy Cline'
This 2-actor play details the life of country music super star, Patsy Cline. All ages are welcome to this performance, held at 1955 Island Walkway, Fernandina Beach from 7:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Admission for performances is $20 ($15 for students) and performances will be held August 25-27.
