Summer is in full swing on Amelia Island, jam packed with activities to suit everyone each and every week this July. Here are some of the Island highlights this month:
Amelia Island Museum of History Pub Crawl
Held weekly in July, the Amelia Island Museum of History's Pub Crawl is a historic tour with a twist. Patrons will tour three historic pubs on the tour. One ticket per bar will buy patrons not only a drink, but a stein full of history. These pub tours will be held Thursdays in July (6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th) beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Fernandina Beach Marine Welcome Center and Shrimping Museum and ending at midnight. This event costs $25 per person and is limited to patrons aged 21 and older. The museum is located at 17 S. Front St., Fernandina Beach FL. Amelia Island Museum of History Ghost Tour
On July 7, 14, 21, and 28 (every Friday) from 6-7 p.m., take the entire family on a historical ghost tour of Amelia Island. The cost of the tour is $10 for adults and $5 for students, and the tour is open to all ages. Tours meet behind St. Peter's Episcopal Church, located at 801 Atlantic Avenue, Fernandina Beach FL 32034. Amelia Island Downtown Tasting Tours
Three drinking-themed tours, Mixology, Cocktail, and Booze & Bites, will meet on various occasions throughout the month of July in Downtown Amelia Island. The Mixology Tasting Tour will visit four different watering holes and guests will have the opportunity to learn how to mix a cocktail while learning about each bar's history. This tour will meet on Fridays and Saturdays in July from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Guests will also have the chance to vote on the best cocktail and enjoy tastings at each location. Booze and Bites Tour will stop at two restaurants downtown. Patrons will have the opportunity to meet the owners and chefs and enjoy samples on the tour. The Booze and Bites Tour will meet every Thursday and Friday from 2:30-5 p.m. The Cocktails Tour will take guests on four stops to different Amelia Island watering holes. Like the Mixology tour, guests will have the opportunity to meet with bartenders to learn how to make different cocktails, and learn about each bar's history. Cocktails will meet each Sunday in July from 2-4 p.m., Each tour will meet at the Hola Cuban Cafe, located at 117 Centre Street, Fernandina Beach. Farmer's Market Tour and Class
Farmer's Market on Amelia Island is held Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. It is held at the Amelia Island Culinary Academy, located at 25 S. 3rd Street in Fernandina Beach. For just $40, you can accompany Chef Bill Thompson at the market to learn how to shop fresh produce like a chef. Chef Bill will then use his purchases to create dressings and dips. Drums are Fun Summer Camp
Held every Wednesday in July, the Drums are Fun Summer Camp is for all ages. In this series, students will be trained by Les DeMerle, a famous drummer, who is also the Artistic Director of the Amelia Island Jazz Festival. Students will learn how to hold drum sticks, how to count rhythms, and other rudimentary skills. Students will be able to apply knowledge gained from these classes to numerous musical styles, including jazz, rock, Latin Big Band, and show music. Classes meet at the Peck Center, located at 516 10th Street in Fernandina from 1-3 p.m. Each class is $25, or $80 for all of them. Harlem of the South
Presented by the Amelia Musical Playhouse, Harlem of the South celebrates musical stylings of Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Cab Calloway. The performance will take place from 7-9 p.m. on July 20-22 and will be held at the Amelia Musical Playhouse, located at 1955 Island Walkway in Fernandina.
Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks
Learn the foxtrot and tango! This event, held at the Amelia Musical Playhouse, located at 1955 Island Walkway in Fernandina is open to teens through senior citizens. It is held from 7:30-9:30 p.m. July7, 8, 13, 14, and 15.
